Lymph…the Missing Link for Chronic Pain?

Our lymphatic system has a vital role, draining toxins out of our body, including:

  • viruses
  • bacteria
  • fungi
  • parasites
  • cellular waste
  • proteins

Somehow this system tends to get overlooked as we figure out problems we have with pain and disease.  There are over 700 lymph nodes in the body and 1/3 of them are in the neck.  There are 15 liters of lymph in our body compared to only 5 liters of blood.  If our lymph vessels were placed end to end in a straight line they would circle the globe 4 times.  We should pay attention to our lymph!!

If your body is full of toxins that are not flowing out properly, it is hard to sustain improvement in how your body functions and feels.  A lymphatic system that is not eliminating toxins contributes to inflammation, pain and disease.

Signs of Lymph Issues

Sings and symptoms of a lymph problem include:

  • Morning stiffness/soreness/itchiness
  • Bloating or swelling
  • Bad breath
  • Skin Problems such as acne, varicose veins, blotchiness
  • Tender lymph nodes

No matter how many nutrients or clean water you take in, the system won’t be able to properly absorb the “good stuff” until it gets rid of the “bad stuff”.  Think of a dirty, murky fish aquarium.  If the water is filthy, no matter how much clean water you put in, the tank will not be clean until the junk gets filtered out.

How a Lymph Reset Can Help

Helping toxins to flow out efficiently through your lymph ducts and allowing the nutrients to be absorbed can be helpful for MANY health issues including:

  • Chronic Pain
  • Inflammation
  • Leaky Gut
  • Auto Immune Disorders
  • Weight that you can’t seem to lose (fat tends to surround toxins)
  • Swelling
  • Any disease

The good news is that it is quite a simple process to get your lymph starting to flow and function better.  There are key lymph nodes that can be assessed for swelling, tightness and tenderness.  Stimulation of these key areas helps them to let go of the toxins.  If you stimulate them in the proper order it helps your toxins to flow out so you can better absorb nutrients and promote healing.  Then we can move on to mobilizing your liver and other areas that help your lymphatic system to function well.  There is a one minute maintenance routine you can practice daily to help your lymph to continue draining properly!

Other Ways to Help Lymph Flow

Other ways to help your lymph include diaphragmatic breathing and movement.  I encourage you to get started with adding in more of those two today.   Simply practice taking deep diaphragmatic breaths with expansion of your lower rib cage, and move more of your body in more ways!

I recently learned how to assess and treat the lymphatic system and am excited to be including these assessments in my sessions now!  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
